MARSHALL, TX. --
The Women's Millsaps Tennis Team opened their Texas road trip with a tough 6-3 loss to the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, TX. Numbers 1 and 2 doubles fought hard, but fell 8-2 and 8-1. Junior, Reya Hayek and Freshman, Natalie Toups, teamed up at 3 doubles winning 8-2 to get the Majors on the board. The Majors found themselves down 1-2 heading into singles.
Junior, Ashley Ford, had a tough match against Bramlett of ETBU falling 6-2, 6-3. Number 3, 4 and 6 singles would follow with straight set loses.
The matches of the day cam from Freshman, Maggie Dabadie and Junior, Reya Hayek. Dabadie was able to push the first set to a tiebreaker. She fell short 7-3 in the tiebreaker, but gained momentum heading into the second set. Dabadie would come back swinging taking the second set 6-2. Dabadie kept things going with a routine third set tiebreaker sealing her win with a 10-2 score. This was Dabadie's biggest win of the season so far.
Reya Hayek wrapped up the evening with a rollercoaster of a victory. Hayek found herself down quickly after a slow start loosing the set 6-1. Hayek used her experience and determination to take the second set 6-1. The third set tiebreaker continued to be a thriller that Hayek would win 13-11.
The Majors traveled to Tyler, TX to take on the University of Texas at Tyler Saturday at 10:00 am, and Austin College Sunday at 10:00 am.
