JACKSON, Miss. (Mar. 26, 2017) – Playing its final non-conference match of the season, the Millsaps College women's tennis picked up an 8-1 decision over the University of the Ozarks this afternoon. Ranked No. 15 in the region, the Majors have now won seven straight.
Millsaps (11-3) had an immediate 3-0 lead in the match due to the University of the Ozarks (3-11) having only four players available. With that advantage the Majors put the match away early with victories in both doubles matches contested.
Junior
Reya Hayek (Greenville, Miss.) and freshman
Natalie Toups (Baton Rouge, La.) took the first win for Millsaps, an 8-2 decision at No. 2. The Majors' No. 1 team of junior
Ashley Ford (Austin, Texas) and freshman
Maggie Dabadie (Baton Rouge, La.) then clinched the team win by an identical 8-2 score.
Freshman
Natalie Toups (Baton Rouge, La.) took the first singles point for Millsaps, scoring a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4. Sophomore
Tori Barbier (Metairie, La.) followed at No. 3 with her 6-3, 6-0 decision, with junior
Mary Claiborne-Sharpe (Brownsville, Tenn.) picking up the final point of the day for the Majors with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Millsaps will take to the road for its next match, taking on Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opponent Rhodes College on Saturday, April 1 at 9:00 a.m.
