Millsaps Falls at SAA Women’s Tennis Tournament

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Apr. 21, 2017) – Millsaps College fell behind after doubles and could not recover in singles play as the Majors fell to Birmingham-Southern College, 5-2, at the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Women's Tennis Tournament. Freshman Maggie Dabadie (Baton Rouge, La.) won in both singles and doubles for Millsaps, which was seeded No. 4 in the tournament. Junior Reya Hayek (Greenville, Miss.) was named to the SAA Women's Tennis All-Tournament team.

Seeded No. 5, Birmingham-Southern (7-9) took a pair of points in doubles play where the Panthers scored 8-1 and 8-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. Millsaps (14-7) saw its No. 1 team put the Majors on the board when Dabadie and junior Ashley Ford (Austin, Texas) held off the BSC team of Carlee Petro and Emily Whitlock, 8-6.

In singles action Dabadie picked up another point for the Majors, taking down Isabella Wisener, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. Ford also held a lead in her matchup with Petro at No. 1, but the Panthers came up with straight sets victories at slots 3-5 to take the win and advance in the tournament.
