JACKSON, Miss. (Apr. 9, 2017) – Millsaps College took on nationally ranked Sewanee in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) women's tennis match today on the Coach Montgomery Courts. The Majors could not break through for a point against the Tigers, falling 9-0.
Sewanee (14-5, 5-0 SAA) came out strong in doubles play, dropping just one game among the three contests in jumping out to an early lead.
Millsaps (13-5, 3-2 SAA) faired better in singles play, but still could not come up with a point against a strong Tigers team. The closest matches came in the top three flights. At No. 1 junior
Ashley Ford (Austin, Texas) fell, 6-2, 6-1 to Ellie Czura, the 15
th ranked player in the region. In the No. 2 match freshman
Maggie Dabadie (Baton Rouge, La.) dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Haley Tucker, while sophomore
Jordyn Kanak (Austin, Texas) was defeated by Abbie Vaughn in the No. 3 contest, 6-2, 6-1.
Next up for Millsaps will be a visit to Oglethorpe University for an SAA match on Friday, April 14.
