ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team traveled to Georgia this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional Championships. Taking on some of the best talent that the Atlantic South Region has to offer, the Majors had several strong showings.
Ella Shields
On Friday morning, Shields won her first match 6-0, 6-0 against Nicole Halabi of North Carolina Wesleyan before falling to the #1 overall seed from Emory, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Shields, with partner MK Clayton, took down a doubles team from Rhodes, 8-4, to round out their weekend.
Grace Gaskins
Gaskins took a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Sewanee before falling to Emory, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in a match that took 3 hours to complete.
Morgan Jenkins
Jenkins reached the quarterfinals of Flight B after a 6-3, 6-1 over Piedmont.
In doubles, Jenkins, along with partner
Jordyn Kanak, took down a team from Belhaven, 8-0, before falling in the Flight B semifinals.
Jillian Sandoz
Reached the quarterfinals of Flight C after dropping Rhodes in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.
Jordyn Kanak
Advanced to the Flight C quarterfinals after a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rhodes.
Morris Kelly Clayton
Reached the semifinals of Flight D with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Piedmont before falling in the semis 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
