JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College women's tennis began their 2018 season on Wednesday afternoon. The Majors took on rival Belhaven University, and had the upper hand all day long on their way to a 9-0 win.
In doubles play
Ella Shields and
Morgan Jenkins kicked things off by posting an 8-0 win at #3. The #1 doubles combo of
Ashley Ford and
Grace Gaskins followed that up with an 8-1 win, and
Maggie Dabadie and
Jillian Sandoz closed things out with an 8-3 win to give the Majors a 3-0 advantage.
Gaskins scored a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 to begin singles action, and Jenkins clinched the win for the Majors at #4 by sweeping her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Ella Shields picked up 6-0, 6-1 win at #5, and Dabadie was not far behind with an identical 6-0, 6-1 win at the #3 spot.
Ford took the #1 singles match 6-2, 1-0 after her opponent retired, and Sandoz completed the sweep for the Majors with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6.
Just like on the men's side, today is the first win for Millsaps over Belhaven since beating the Blazers 9-0 in April of 2010.
Next up, the Majors play host to Blue Mountain College in a match set for 3:00pm on Thursday, February 22
nd at Coach Montgomery Courts.
