Women’s Tennis Drops Close Match to UT-Tyler

JACKSON, Miss. – After over a week off the Millsaps College women's tennis team was back in action on Friday afternoon. The Majors welcomed the Patriots of Texas-Tyler to Coach Montgomery Courts for the final non-conference match of the season.

The Patriots won a tightly contested 5-4 match to improve their record to 6-4 on the year. Millsaps falls to 7-5 this season.

UT-Tyler led 2-1 after doubles play. It was the #1 combination of Ashley Ford and Grace Gaskins that got the Majors a point with their 8-4 win.

The singles matches were hotly contested all afternoon long.

Gaskins picked up a quick 6-1, 6-1 win at the #1 spot, and Maggie Dabadie gave Millsaps a 3-2 lead with her 6-1, 6-3 win at #2.

Unfortunately, the Patriots were able to come back and regain the momentum. UT-Tyler scored wins at both #6 and #5 before clinching the match with a win at #4.

Ella Shields picked up the fourth Millsaps point with her 7-6, 6-3 win at singles #3.
