JACKSON, Miss. – After over a week off the Millsaps College women's tennis team was back in action on Friday afternoon. The Majors welcomed the Patriots of Texas-Tyler to Coach Montgomery Courts for the final non-conference match of the season.
The Patriots won a tightly contested 5-4 match to improve their record to 6-4 on the year. Millsaps falls to 7-5 this season.
UT-Tyler led 2-1 after doubles play. It was the #1 combination of
Ashley Ford and
Grace Gaskins that got the Majors a point with their 8-4 win.
The singles matches were hotly contested all afternoon long.
Gaskins picked up a quick 6-1, 6-1 win at the #1 spot, and
Maggie Dabadie gave Millsaps a 3-2 lead with her 6-1, 6-3 win at #2.
Unfortunately, the Patriots were able to come back and regain the momentum. UT-Tyler scored wins at both #6 and #5 before clinching the match with a win at #4.
Ella Shields picked up the fourth Millsaps point with her 7-6, 6-3 win at singles #3.
What's Next?
Millsaps is back at home on Sunday morning as they open Southern Athletic Association play. The Majors welcome Birmingham Southern to town for a match that is set to begin at 9:00am.
