NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Millsaps College women's tennis team was on the road Friday for a conference match with the Colonels of Centre College.
Millsaps held the all-important 2-1 advantage after doubles play, and then quickly polished off their win with three straight singles wins.
The Majors improve to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the SAA. They are locked in a three-way tied with both Sewanee and Oglethorpe atop the conference standings. The Colonels fall to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference this year.
Reya Hayek and
Ella Shields got the day started for the Majors with their convincing 8-2 win at #3 doubles.
Ashley Ford and
Grace Gaskins are the #10 ranked doubles combination in the region, and they defended that ranking this afternoon with an 8-6 win at #1 doubles.
After the Colonels took #2 doubles match things moved into singles play with Millsaps leading 2-1.
Ford picked up a big win at #2 by scores of 6-3, 6-0, and Gaskins defended her #10 regional ranking with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #1. At #3 singles
Maggie Dabadie clinched the match for the Majors with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
What's Next?
The Majors continue their road trip tomorrow as they travel to take on Sewanee. The match is set to begin at 10:00am.
