JACKSON, Miss. – The #38 Millsaps College women's tennis team was back at home on Sunday afternoon for a conference match with Oglethorpe University. The Majors led 2-1 after doubles play, and quickly wrapped up their 5-1 win once the match moved into singles action.
The win improves the Millsaps record to 10-6 overall on the year and 3-1 in the SAA. The Stormy Petrels fall to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Ogelthorpe actually won the first match of the day, a 8-2 win at #3 doubles, but from that point on it was all Millsaps the rest of the afternoon.
Rachel Beck and
Maggie Dabadie scored an 8-4 win at doubles #2, and the team of
Grace Gaskins and
Ashley Ford followed that up with an 8-6 win at doubles #1 to give Millsaps the 2-1 advantage.
Because the match was played to decision, only three singles matches ended with final scores. Gaskins defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at #1.
Jordyn Kanak took the #5 match by an identical 6-2, 6-2 score, and
Morgan Jenkins polished off the win for the Majors with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #6.
