JACKSON, Miss. – On Monday, the #38 Millsaps College women's tennis team took on the Vikings of Berry College in a match that had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather over the weekend.
The Majors held a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play and captured a pair of singles matches to win 5-2 in a match that was played to decision.
The win improves the Millsaps record to 11-6 overall on the year and 4-1 in the SAA. The Vikings fall to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Majors now sit alone at second place in the SAA standings, one match behind Sewanee.
The Majors dominated doubles play to quickly move ahead 3-0 in the match.
Ashley Ford and
Jillian Sandoz cruised to an 8-1 victory at #1.
Maggie Dabadie and
Rachel Beck took doubles #2 by an 8-6 score, and the team of
Ella Shields and
Reya Hayek completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at #3.
Because the match was played to decision, only four singles matches ended with final scores. The Vikings got a pair of wins at #4 and #2, but Sandoz easly took #6 by a 6-0, 6-2 score and Dabadie came from behind at #1 to clinch the match for the Majors with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win.
What's Next?
Millsaps is right back at Coach Montgomery Courts for the final weekend of the regular season. On Saturday April 14
th they will host Rhodes, and they will entertain Hendrix in the regular season finale on Sunday.
