Football Stumbles on the Road at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas -- On Saturday afternoon, the Millsaps College football team traveled to Texas for a Southern Athletic Association contest against Austin College.

The host 'Roos led 10-7 at halftime, and outscored the Majors 10-0 in the second half to come away with the 20-7 win.

The loss drops Millsaps to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SAA this year. Austin improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play

How It Happened
The teams each exchanged punts on their opening possession to open up the game.

After the Majors' punt, Austin College used a four play drive to score the game's first touchdown on a 1-yard rush.

Millsaps answered right back however as Amryn Jeffrey capped off a seven play, 57-yard drive with a 16-yard rushing touchdown.

Hunter Sellen's PAT attempt was good to tie the game at 7-7 with 4:45 remaining in the opening quarter.

The second quarter was a defensive struggle with the only points coming on a  'Roos 25-yard field goal.

At halftime Millsaps trailed 10-7.

Unfortunately the second-half saw the Austin offense score the only 10 points.

In the end, Austin's style of offense allowed them to run 95 plays to the Majors 47, and dominate the time of possession 40:48 to 19:12 to help seal their 20-7 win.

Notables
Several defensive players had standout performances for the Majors.

Christian Roberts led the way with a game-high 16 tackles, while reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Week Liam Vincifora added two more sacks to his league-leading total. He now has eight on the season.

Tareze Grant finished with 8 total tackles in the secondary. He also had an interception. Linebacker Dylan Higgins added 13 tackles and an interception for the Millsaps defense which led the turnover battle 2-1.
