JACKSON, Miss. -- The 2019 soccer season is winding down for NCAA Division III schools, and the Millsaps College men's team is at home this weekend for two of their last three matches of the regular season.
Tomorrow, the Majors will welcome the Tigers of Sewanee to Harper Davis Field. Millsaps will remain at home for a Sunday afternoon match against Centre College.
Last Time Out
Millsaps traveled to Georgia last weekend for their last regular season road matches of the season.
On Friday the Majors faced off against Berry College. Millsaps dominated the first half, but a late offensive attack from Berry allowed the Vikings to score the 5-3 win.
Millsaps wrapped up the weekend with a Sunday afternoon contest against Oglethorpe. A strong first half from the Stormy Petrels allowed them to build a lead that the Majors were unable to overcome in the 8-1 loss.
With the pair of losses Millsaps heads into this weekend 5-7 on the year. They are 1-3 in SAA play.
Tomorrow: Sewanee (8-3-1, 3-1 SAA), 7:30 p.m., Harper Davis Field
The Tigers come into the weekend off of a 6-0 win against Hendrix College. Sewanee is 3-2 in their last five matches, with their lone SAA loss coming at the hands of Oglethorpe back on October 5.
Key Players for the Tigers
The Sewanee offense is led by five goals from sophomore Thomas Schollaert. He also has a team-leading six assists on the season. Additionally, freshman Tashinga Vhumisai and sophomore Evan Poole have scored four and three goals respectively this year.
Defensively, junior James Murray is the main goalkeeper having started 7 of the team's matches. He has allowed nine goals in 1,094 minutes of game action. As a team the Tigers rank second in the SAA in shutouts with five.
Sunday: Centre College (10-3-1, 3-1 SAA), 2:30 p.m., Harper Davis Field
The Colonels will take on Birmingham-Southern College Friday night before turning their attention to the Majors on Sunday. Centre comes into this weekend having won six out of their last seven matches.
Key Players for the Colonels
Senior Alexander Garuba paces the offensive attack for the Colonels. He ranks second in the league with 10 goals scored. Junior Dylan Barth is second on the team with five goals, while fellow classmate Will Newton leads Centre with four assists.
Centre's defense is anchored by Tate Johnson in goal. He leads the SAA with a 0.74 goals against average. He also has a .824 saves percentage.
