ROME, Ga. -- The Millsaps College women's tennis team traveled to Georgia this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional Championships.
Taking on some of the best talent that the Atlantic South Region has to offer, the Majors had several strong showings.Â
Women's Singles Flight A
Freshman
Camille Fremaux kicked off her collegiate career with a 6-4, 6-3 win to open up play.
Marissa Brown also got off to a hot start defeating her opponent from Covenant College in straight sets.
Grace Gaskins opened up with a win, before bowing out in an 11-9 3rd set tiebreaker to the eventual runner-up from Emory.Â
Natalie Toups and
Morgan Jenkins both scored big victories over SAA rivals from Berry and Sewanee. Toups was down 4-7 in the 3rd set tiebreaker, but won six consecutive points to capture the 10-7 win.Â
Women's Singles Flight B
Morris Kelly Clayton advanced all the way to semifinals. She picked up wins over BSC and Berry en route to the top-four finish.Â
Women's Singles Flight C
Isabella Hutchins made a deep run to the final match of the C draw. She beat opponents from Rhodes College, Guilford and Covenant before losing in the finals.Â
Women's Doubles Flight A
Maggie Dabadie and Fremaux teamed up to score a win over Piedmont College and a convincing 8-1 win over Belhaven.
Gaskins and Clayton advanced to the quarterfinals, picking up identical 8-4 wins over Piedmont and Sewanne.
Women's Doubles Flight B
Amelia Christy and Brown debuted as a doubles team by advancing tot he semifinals. Their run was highlighted by a huge 8-7(4) defeat over Sewanee.Â
Jenkins and Toups continued the string of successes over conference opponents. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Oglethorpe.
