Baseball Falls at Home in Doubleheader to Berry

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps College baseball team returned home on Friday afternoon for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) doubleheader against the Berry College Vikings.

In the opening game, a big 7th inning helped the Vikings pull away for 13-2 win.

In game two, Millsaps rallied from an early deficit to force extra innings. Unfortunately, Berry plated four runs in the top of the 8th to complete the doubleheader sweep with a 10-6 win.

Millsaps is now 7-10 overall and 2-3 in SAA play.

Game 1
Berry opened up the ballgame with one run in the top of the 1st.

It took the Majors just one inning to respond however, as Avery Brock hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Unfortunately, the Vikings scored 12 unanswered runs between the 3rd-7th innings to take a 13-2 lead.

Sam Pitre had a RBI single in the bottom of the 7th, but the Majors were unable to overcome the deficit and Berry scored the 13-2 run-rule victory.

Key Contributors
Both Pitre and Mark Petkovsek had a pair of base hits for Millsaps.

Fisher Moore pitched two innings in relief, and allowed just one earned run to cross the plate.

Game 2
This time it was the Majors who opened up the scoring.

After both teams went scoreless in the the 1st, Millsaps got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 2nd.

Jon Dale Dieckman drew a leadoff walk. In the very next at bat Mason Little hit his first home run of the season to give the Majors a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Petkovsek came in to score on a Chris Hart RBI groundout to make it a 3-0 game.

Unfortunately, the Vikings responded with five runs in the 3rd, and added another in the 4th to pull ahead 6-3.

After Ryan Erwin pitched scoreless 5th and 6th innings, the Majors' offense made a come back.

In the 6th, Millsaps loaded the bases on singles by Brock, Dieckman and Petkovsek.

Jackson Hailey came through with a sacrifice fly, and Nathan Chilton had a pinch-hit RBI single to pull the Majors within one run.

Erwin shut Berry down in the top of the 7th, and the offense picked right back up where they left off.

Fritz Walker was hit by a pitch, and Brock and Dylan McFarland had back-to-back singles to load the bases. Little notched a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 6-6, but Millsaps was unable to push across the winning run and game went in to extra innings.

In the top of the 8th, Berry scored four runs on four hits to move ahead 10-6.

The Majors tried to rally in the bottom half, but the Vikings held on for the win.

Key Contributors
Both Brock and Petkovsek had a multi-hit game for Millsaps. Meanwhile, Little led the way with three RBIs.
