CLINTON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs began their 2021 outdoor seasons at the Mississippi College Season Opener on Saturday. Several Majors posted quality times and results at the James E. Parkman Track in a field of 30 schools ranging from Division I to community colleges.
On the men's side,
Storm Buescher and
Patrick Elliott had particularly strong days. Buescher cleared 1.95m in the high jump to finish second overall. Elliott won his heat and finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a blistering time of 4:03.61.
Joining Elliott in the event was
Landry Lemoine, who finished 21st in 4:18.37. Both Elliott and Lemoine did not appear fatigued after earning SAA All-Conference honors the week before at the SAA Cross Country Championships.
Junior
Grant Yancey, another SAA All-Conference honoree, finished 16th in the 5000 meters with a swift time of 16:14.91. Follow cross country teammate Sam Saia posted an 800-meter time of 2:05.66 to cross the line in 20th.
William Weber cleared 3.66m in the pole vault to tie for ninth position while teammate
Jakob Myers-Heldt threw the discus 24.6m.
In the women's competition,
Carolina Teague,
Isabel Baird,
Abby Tew and
Angelle Martin each competed for the Majors a week after racing in the cross country finale.
Teague completed the 400-meter dash in 1:02.46. Baird finished 17th in the 1500 meters, clocking in at 5:21.44. Her running mate
Abby Tew also competed with a time of 6:01.20. Rounding out the foursome, Martin covered 5000 meters in 22:35.88.
Senior
Sophia Brouillette had an extremely busy meet competing in three field events. She reached distances of 7.61m in the shot put, 18.33m in the discus and 25.37m in the javelin throw.
Also representing the Majors was
Khloe Colar, who covered 3.94m in the long jump.
The Majors will next head to Hattiesburg, Miss. to compete in the Carey Outdoor Challenge on Friday, March 19.
