MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A pair of victories and several quality performances by the Millsaps men's and women's track & field teams were posted on Day Two of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships on Saturday. Freshman
Patrick Elliott won the 1500 meters in record-shattering time and junior
Carolina Teague triumphed in the 400-meter hurdles.
As a team the men finished sixth with 61 points, while the women ended the meet in seventh with 39 points.
Elliott broke his own school record in the 1500m with a blistering time of 4:01.48. In her first time competing in the 400m hurdles this spring, Teague set a personal-best time of 1:06.86 to win the event by nearly four seconds.
Teague also placed second in the open 400m after crossing the line in 1:00.17. She wasn't the only Major to finish second on the day. Senior
Samuel Saia clocked a swift 800m time of 2:00.03 in runner-up position. Saia set the program record at 1:59.06 just two weeks earlier.
Also earning a second-place time was the women's 4x400m relay of
Kai Horne, Teague,
Alyssa Navarre and
Alli Despaux. The quartet combined to run 4:14.40.
Several other Majors also scored to end the two-day competition. On the men's side, senior Landon Wimberly make quick work of the 100m dash with a time of 11:34. Sophomore Landon Wimberly tallied seventh position in the 5000m at 15:54.80.
Additionally, the 4x100m relay squad and 4x400m relay team posted fast times. Wimberley,
Christopher Butler,
Shane Cockrell and Moise Tezzo ran the first in 43.29, Saia, Elliott, Cockrell and Butler finished the 4x400 in 3:36.30.
In the women's competition, both
Sophia Brouillette and the women's 4x100m relay posted a sixth-place performance as well. Broillette threw the javelin 28.38m, while Navarre,
Khloe Colar,
Alexandria Ellis and Horne ran the relay in 53.11.
Kolar also scored a point in the 100m hurdles, finishing eighth courtesy of a 19.70 second time. She outside of scoring position were in the 800m were
Isabel Baird (ninth, 2:29.27) and Navarre (10th, 2:31.18).
