Grace Gaskins Qualifies for NCAA Women’s Tennis Individual Championship

Senior Becomes First Major to Advance to Nationals Since 2015

INDIANAPOLIS – Millsaps women's tennis standout Grace Gaskins qualified for the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in singles, the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Committee announced on Wednesday.

Gaskins is one of 32 student-athletes who will compete in the singles tournament at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., which will be held Friday-Sunday, May 28-30. Both singles and doubles will be contested as part of the individual championships.

She has posted perfect marks of 8-0 in singles and 9-0 in doubles both at No. 1 to be named the Southern Athletic Association Player of the Year. Additionally, she set an SAA record by winning 31 consecutive sets at No. 1 singles in conference matches. The Marietta, Ga., senior has yet to face a tiebreak all season and made the SAA All-Tournament Team as well.

Gaskins also was ranked as high as No. 4 in the Atlantic South Regional rankings this season. She becomes the first Millsaps women's tennis student-athlete to advance to nationals since Deena Li Kam Wa accomplished the feat in 2015.

For the individual championships, the national committee selected a percentage of singles players and doubles teams from each of the four regions. The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The draw for the individual championship will be done by the women's tennis committee and will be released on May 26.

A full list of qualifiers and alternates can be found here.

Gaskins will look to help the Majors defeat Northwestern-St. Paul in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament on Thursday. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. with live stats available at gomajors.com.
