Rising Freshman Alexis Oliver Won Consolation Bracket, Millsaps Represented in Four Total Finals

ATLANTA – The Millsaps women's tennis program shined brightly at the ITA South Regional Championships, hosted by Emory University on Friday and Saturday. Rising freshman Alexis Oliver won her consolation bracket, while the Majors had student-athletes compete in three other finals.

After falling in her opening match, Oliver made a dominant return in the Flight B2 Consolation only surrendering three points in three matches. She swept past Fabiola Garcia (Agnes Scott), 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals before dispatching a pair of Piedmont competitors (Lexie Washburn: 6-1, 6-0; Kaitlyn House: 6-0, 6-2).

Oliver teamed up with sophomore Mackenzie Vordick and reached the Flight B Consolation Final in doubles. They faced three Piedmont teams, winning 8-1 and 8-4 before falling in an incredibly close tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-2).

Reaching the finals in the Flight A Consolation bracket was senior Camille Fremaux and sophomore Kiana Everhart. The duo bested Piedmont, 8-2 in the quarterfinals and again, 8-6 in the semis. Fremaux and Everhart gave a great effort against Emily Holderness and Mary Rask of Rhodes before falling, 8-5 in the finale.

Sophomore Mary Dabadie represented the Majors well in the Flight B1 singles field advancing to the semifinals. She dominated Brianna Ali of Oglethorpe, 6-0, 6-1 as well as Anna Marie Bentley of BSC, 6-2, 6-1. Dabadie was bested in a back-and-forth match with Oglethorpe's Sydney Dattilo, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Vordick, who also is a member of Millsaps volleyball program, secured two victories to advance to the Flight B1 Singles Consolation. Her first match resulted in a walkover, but she took care of Piedmont's Dannie Evans, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals. Vordick put up a valiant effort before being bested by Piedmont's Sarah Row, 6-1, 6-4.

Also securing a singles victory was Fremaux. She bested Ama White of Agnes Scott, 6-3, 7-5 in the Flight A Round of 64. Sewanee's Alice Hall ended the run in the Round of 32 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision.

The men's program will now compete in their own ITA South Regional Championships. North Carolina Wesleyan College will host the event in Rocky Mount, N.C., Oct. 7-9. Regional info, draws and schedule can be found at gomajors.com.
