SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Millsaps football team was downed by No. 5/6 Trinity University, 63-0 at the Trinity Multi-Purpose Stadium on Saturday.
Freshman
Gray Jennings completed 8-of-21 passes for 56 yards, while sophomore
Brandyn Butler caught one pass for 21 yards and senior
Conner Rucker hauled in two catches for 17 yards.
Junior
Ethan Klapatch was strong on special teams, punting 11 times for 501 yards. He post four punts 50 yards or more, with a long of 56 yards.
Defensively freshmen
Jeremiah Hall and
Luke Bridges recorded nine tackles, while sophomore
Brian Shaw finished with six tackles and one quarterback hurry.
Freshman
James Jones added six tackles, while sophomore
Tondarrius Stallion totaled five tackles and one breakup. Classmate
Matthew McDonald also posted five tackles and freshman
Jamison Rankins generated four tackles and forced a fumble.
Trinity struck the Majors with three touchdowns in the first quarter and added a score in the opening drive of the second quarter. Rankins forced a fumble at midfield halfway into the second stanza and the ball was recovered by senior
Adrian Turner.
The Majors would keep Trinity out the end zone for the remainder of the first half with the score staying 28-0 at intermission.
The Tigers would add four touchdowns in the third quarter and another in the fourth for the final 63-0 tally.
Millsaps will next host Southwestern University for Senior Day on Saturday. Festivities will begin shortly after 12:30 p.m. with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
