ATLANTA – The Southern Athletic Association basketball coaches voted and three total members of the Millsaps men's and women's basketball programs were named to the All-Conference Team, the league office announced on Monday.
On the women' side, sophomore
Haley Franklin earned a spot on the First Team and freshman
Elyse Warren was named All-SAA Honorable Mention. Senior
Doug Watson was tabbed All-SAA Honorable Mention from the men's team.
Franklin set the single-season scoring record (514 points) and free-throw makes record (156) for the women's program.
The Chemistry major also now sits second in scoring average (19.0 ppg), free throws attempted (212) and third for field goals made (176). Her point total, free throw conversions and attempts are currently ranked first in the conference and also across the 11 NCAA schools competing in Mississippi.
Additionally, the Baton Rouge, La. product set a program-high when she posted 35 points against St. Thomas on Nov. 20. She also was named to the 2023 SAA All-Tournament Team on Sunday.
Franklin also led the conference field goals and sits third in assists with a team-high 79. Her 50 steals also place her fourth across the SAA and was top 10 across several other statistical categories.
Warren played in 26 of the 27 games for the Majors, averaging 13.6 minutes per contest. She was second on the team in points scored (207), average points (8.0 ppg) and field-goal percentage (.467).
The Memphis Tenn. native made the SAA top 10 in total rebounds (156 – ninth), rebounds per game (6.0 – ninth) and was seventh with 64 offensive boards. She added 14 steals, 11 blocks and five assists.
The Neuroscience major along with Franklin helped power the women's team to a 19-8 overall record and helped the Majors reach the SAA Tournament Semifinals.
Senior
Doug Watson, a native from Jackson, Miss., started all 25 games for the Majors, while accumulating a team-high 768 minutes (30.7 mpg).
He also led the team with 356 points, which currently ranks sixth in the conference and is ranked eighth at 14.2 points per game. Watson paced the SAA with an incredible .875 free-throw percentage (91-104), which sits 23rd nationally.
The Biology major also sits inside or near the top 10 in free-throw makes (91 – third), field goals (116 – 10th), three-pointers (33 – 11th) and steals (25 – 13th).
Watson also was an all-ball defender and was usually paired up against the opponent's best shooter. He tallied 69 rebounds (64 defensive), 28 assists and 25 steals as well.
