JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's basketball team opens the 2025 Southern Athletic Association Men's Basketball Championship with First Round action at No. 3 seed Centre College on Sunday.
The Majors enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will play inside Alumni Gym in Danville, Ky.
Sunday will feature three First Round matchups with the winners advancing to the SAA Semifinals. The Semifinals and SAA Championship will be hosted by No. 1 seed Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga., Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1.
Millsaps junior Caleb Kent appeared in 24 games and has made 20 starts for the Majors. Kent leads the team first with 342 points and 174 rebounds, while averaging 14.3 points and 7.3 boards per game.
A transfer from Holmes Community College, Kent stepped in and made an immediate impact on the team right away. He is currently second on the team with 51 assists and 29 steals.
Going into the 2025 Southern Athletic Association men's basketball tournament, Kent's playing style could be a huge threat to centers across the conference.
The Madison, Miss., native currently sits 10th in the SAA in scoring and fifth in rebounding.
Averaging 11.1 points per game, junior Dakota Gasca paces the team with 48 steals and is second behind Kent with 266 points.
Adding strong shot-making ability to his accolades, Gasca is 77 percent (87-for-113) from the charity stripe as well.
Same as Kent, Gasca can be explosive when attacking the rim with acrobatic layups.
He appeared in 24 games for the Majors during the 2024-25 regular season and leads the team with 717 total minutes.
Playing in the SAA Tournament, opponents will notice that Gasca has the ability to find players wide open. He currently leads the team with 71 assists.
Playing against him opposing teams must keep the ball close. Gasca sits third in the conference with 48 total steals and 2.0 steals per contest.
Sophomore Cameron Lumar, a 2023-24 All-SAA Honorable Mention selection, currently has 60 rebounds, 25 assists and 24 steals.
Lumar's shooting will play a huge role against Centre in the First Round. He is a competitive player who does not mind knocking down wide-open shots when given the opportunity.
Appearing in 19 matchups, Lumar is currently averaging 10.7 points per game.
Senior Drew Roth, another talented player to watch out for in the tournament, he is very explosive at the rim and can throw down dunks inside the paint.
Roth is currently averaging 9.2 points per game and sits eighth in the conference with 17 blocks and 11th at 136 rebounds (5.4 per game).
He started in all 25 games. He stands third on the team with 229 points. On defense he holds 16 steals.
Leading the conference with 48 blocks, senior Nicholas Ughovwa will look to lead the Majors past Centre as a defensive lockdown inside the interior.
Ughovwa has 25 starts for the Majors and is currently averaging 8.3 points per game. The forward has added 25 steals to accolades as well.
Millsaps will open the Southern Athletic Association postseason tournament against No. 3 seed Centre.
The Colonels finished the 2024-25 regular season (15-9, 7-5 SAA) under men's basketball coach Greg Mason, helming the team since 1999.
Centre comes into the tournament second with 254 three-point field goals made across the conference and leads with 10.6 per contest.
Jaxson Banks leads all scoring for the Colonels with 15.5 points per game. The 6-5 guard is currently shooting an impressive 83.3 percent (65-for-78) at the foul line.
