MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Millsaps men's and women's track and field competed competitively at the Rhodes Invitational, highlighted by senior
Fran Edwards' record-breaking 10,000-meter performance over the weekend.
The Majors posted quality times and strong distances at the Wolfe Track and Field Complex on Friday.
Edwards set the Millsaps women's track and field school record at 10,000 meters with a time of 40 minutes, 55.63 seconds. She placed runner-up in the event and bettered Abby Tew's mark of 40:56.81 set in 2019.
Edwards shattered her previous best time in the event (42:38.13), which was set in the same meet last season.
Finishing sixth in the 10K was classmate
Abigail Henry (50:26.43).
Making her season debut was junior
Eleanor Scott. She bounded 10.34 meters in the triple jump for third place.
Freshman
Geda Brewster and sophomore
Amari Jackson-Wright both made their outdoor collegiate debuts by competing in the hammer throw. Brewster was 12th (20.46 meters) and Jackson-Wright was 14th (15.72 meters).
Freshman
Laken Day concluded the women's javelin in seventh after recording a personal-best throw of 29.57 meters.
On the men's side, classmate
William Sullivan covered the 5000 meters in 17:18.64 and finished 24th.
In the men's hammer throw, senior
AJ Alvarez recorded a distance of 28.34 meters (11th) and sophomore
Carter Davis registered a mark of 26.25 meters (13th).
The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs will be back in action at the Belhaven Invitational next Saturday, March 22. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
