Ground and Air Attack Propel Millsaps Football Past Centenary, 56-14

Majors Tally 534 Yards of Offense, Four Rushing Scores on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. — Millsaps dominated Centenary College, 56-14 on Saturday at Harper Davis Field. The Majors utilized a powerful rushing attack, amassing 303 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. The home team also excelled in the air with three passing touchdowns.

Millsaps' defense contributed significantly, with two interceptions, including a 71-yard return for a touchdown. It was also the most points scored by the Majors since the 2010 season (70-31 at Rhodes). The Millsaps College Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 was also recognized at halftime.

Freshman Grant Bizjack completed 12 of 19 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 41 yards and two more scores.

Redshirt junior Mitch Taylor led with 66 yards in a balanced rushing attack as 10 Majors carried the pigskin. Freshman Quez Goss (51 yards) and redshirt sophomore Braxton Garmon (43 yards) both added a score with their swift feet.

Sophomore Greg Donaldson (three receptions, 65 yards), junior Willie Elliott and sophomore Davis Dare all hauled in a touchdown reception.

Senior Zabian Boutan led the defense with seven total tackles (three tackles for loss) and recorded two sacks.

Freshman Jackson DeGeorge made a significant impact on defense with an interception returned for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Nehemiah Coalson (pass breakup, two quarterback hurries) and sophomore W.H. Carver (fumble recovery) both added six tackles.

In special teams, sophomore Connor Babin connected on all eight PATs and tallied eight kickoffs for 445 yards (55.6-yard average).

Millsaps (1-1) totaled 303 yards rushing and 231 yards through the air, while converting all three fourth-down attempts.

Centenary amassed 321 yards of offense and only scored in the opening minutes of the second quarter and closing moments of the fourth quarter.

In the first quarter, Millsaps capitalized early with a methodical drive beginning at 12:53, highlighted by Bizjack's 20-yard pass to Garmon and followed by a 15-yard rush from Garmon himself.

The drive culminated in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Bizjack to Elliott, putting the Majors ahead 7–0 after Babin's successful extra point.

The Gents struggled to respond effectively, with a promising drive stalling due to penalties and incomplete passes. Millsaps' defense remained firm, forcing Centenary to punt and keeping them scoreless through the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Centenary began strong with a successful drive culminating in a one-yard touchdown run. The Majors responded with a strategic drive led by Bizjack from midfield, who executed a six-yard rushing score. He later completed a 46-yard touchdown pass to Donaldson, increasing their lead to 21–7.

With the clock winding down, Millsaps capitalized on a Centenary fumble at 3:15 until intermission, leading to a 90-yard drive and 10-yard touchdown run by Garmon. Babin's consistent kicking provided Millsaps a 28–7 advantage by the end of the quarter. Freshman Wade Dobbins forced the turnover and Carver jumped on the ball effectively stopping any possible Centenary momentum.

In the third quarter, Millsaps opened with a strong offensive drive, highlighted by Taylor's effective rushing, including crucial 17-yard and 10-yard gains, which set the team up for a scoring opportunity. Bizjack eventually rushed for a 1-yard touchdown at 10:33, extending their lead to 35-7.

On Centenary's subsequent drive, Millsaps' defense was formidable, with Boutan earning a sack for a seven-yard loss. The Majors later capitalized on a turnover when DeGeorge intercepted a pass and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown, further cementing their advantage at 42-7.

In the fourth quarter, sophomore Ian Burleson found Dare on a 16-yard connection before the Gents added a score with a one-yard touchdown rush, making the score 49-14.

Millsaps responded swiftly, with sophomore Hudson Byers breaking through for an 18-yard run before Goss sealed the scoring with a 51-yard touchdown rush, bringing the final score to 56-14.

The next challenge for the Majors takes them on the road to Conway, Ark., where they will face Hendrix College next Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. The matchup will be a nonconference contest as the Warriors are now members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
