AUSTIN, Texas – Millsaps placed four student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District® Track and Field/Cross Country teams for their hard work in the classroom and in competition following the 2023-24 academic semesters. Juniors Natalie Burke, Fran Edwards and Abigail Henry were listed from the women's side, while graduate student Bryan Sullivan represented the men's program, announced on Tuesday by the College Sports Communicators.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their athletic pursuits and excellence in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be nominated by CSC members, student-athletes must have maintained a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and must have ranked in the top 50 in an individual event for cross country, indoor or outdoor track and field.
Burke, a Business Administration major with a minor in Political Science and Economics, boasted a 3.94 cumulative GPA following the 2023-24 academic year. She ranks second in program history in the outdoor long jump and triple jump and fourth in the 200 meters, while holding the top indoor long jump school mark.
The Vicksburg, Miss., product had an impressive 2023-24 season where she would finish strong regionally in several outdoor track events. She was 48th in the 100 meters (12.79 seconds) and top 40 in the long jump (36th, 5.08 meters) and triple jump (39th, 10.28 meters). The junior claimed fifth in the 200-meter finals at the SAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship and helped the 4x100-meter relay team claim fourth.
On campus, Burke is the Vice President of Recruitment and Marketing in Kappa Delta, involved with Enable America Service Club, Government and Politics Club and a member of Club 40. After graduation Burke plans to pursue an MBA or attend Law School.
Majoring in Government and Politics with a minor in Film Studies, Edwards holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA. The Little Rock, Ark., native set personal records in the 5K and 6K during the 2023 cross country season. On Sept. 16, Edwards would finish 46th at the Rhodes Invitational before closing the season 40th at the SAA Cross Country Championships.
On the track, Edwards became the fourth-fastest runner in program history in the 10,000 meters after boasting impressive time of 42 minutes, 38.13 seconds at the Rhodes Invitational on March 16. Her time ranked 34th in the South Region. Edwards is the Executive Director of Programming Elect, writing center consultant, Pathways Leader and has made the President's List each semester. After graduation Edwards plans to pursue her master's in Political Science.
Henry, a 3.84 cumulative GPA holder also from Little Rock, Ark., is majoring in Psychology while minoring in Government & Politics. She placed 51st at the 2023 SAA Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28. Her top ranking on the track came in the 10,000 meters following a time of 46 minutes, 37.60 seconds at the Rhode Invitational. Henry's performance ranked 40th in the South upon completion of the season.
Outside of athletics, Henry is a helping in the Millsaps College Writing Center and a member of the Millsaps College Pathways. Henry completed a Psychology internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where she screened for the developmental disorders. After graduation she plans to pursue her masters in Mental Health Counseling and become a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Sullivan, hailing from Jackson, Miss., owns an unblemished 4.0 cumulative GPA in pursuit of his MBA. He completed his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience with a 3.875 GPA. Sullivan holds many accolades and accomplishments to his name such as a four-time Club 40 member. The graduate also received 2024 All-SAA Honorable Mention status aiding the 4x100-meter relay to a third-place showing at the league meet.
He primarily was a javelin thrower and finished number 40 in the South Region (42.68 meters) after placing 10th at the SAA meet. Sullivan was a decorated swimmer for the Majors where he was an NCAA 2023 First Team All-American and twice the SAA Men's Swimmer of the Year. Outside of athletics, Sullivan was a head swim coach for Reservoir Gators and member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
