CANTON, Ga. —Millsaps football duo
Grant Bizjack and
Luke Bridges were instrumental in a 31-21 win over Maryville College during Homecoming on Saturday. Their efforts were noticed as they were named the Southern Athletic Association Football Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively on Monday. The SAA office made the announcement after a conference-wide Sports Information Directors' vote.
Bizjack, a freshman quarterback from Trophy Club, Texas, threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns, completing 25-of-35 passes. He added 50 rushing yards off 12 attempts. Maryville entered the game ranked No. 10 in the NCAA DIII National Power Index, making the victory the first win over a ranked team since 2009 and Millsaps' first-ever top 10 win in program history.
It is Bizjack's third SAA weekly honor of the season following four starts. He earned the recognition on
Sept. 22 and
Oct. 6 as well.
Bridges also made an impact on Saturday, totaling six tackles and grabbed a tone-setting interception. Bridges intercepted a pass midway through the first quarter on a promising Maryville opening drive at the Millsaps 20-yard line. The Majors turned the turnover into three points and a 10-0 lead that the team never gave up.
The senior defensive back from Walnut Hill, Fla., is also a
2025 William V. Campbell Trophy® semifinalist.
The Majors will next travel to face No. 16 NPI ranked Berry College on Saturday, Oct. 25th in Mount Berry, Ga. The game will kick off at 12 p.m. with live video and live stats available at gomajors.com.
