CANTON, Ga. – The Millsaps men's and women's soccer programs look to dominate on the playing field. Both teams were selected eighth in their respective 2025 Southern Athletic Association Men's and Women's Soccer preseason polls. Both were voted on by league coaches and announced by the SAA office on Wednesday.
On the men's side, SAA newcomer Trinity University was selected first, receiving 56 points and seven first-place votes from the league coaches.
Oglethorpe University was selected second with 48 points and one first-place vote.
Rhodes College secured the third spot with 45 points, while the Majors were placed eighth in the 2025 preseason poll with 14 points.
Millsaps men's soccer head coach Gentry Johnson will continue to build the program after bringing back two All-SAA Honorable Mention sophomores Ellis Dykes and Drew Mckeithen.
The Majors will look to continue battling hard and exceed expectations on the playing field after expanding to a 40-man roster.
On the women's side, Trinity University was selected to finish first place in the conference as well. The Tigers received 53 points, while seeing four first-place votes from league coaches.
Finishing behind Trinity, Sewanee was tabbed second in the preseason poll with 51 points and three first-ballot votes.
Centre kicked their way into the third spot with 44 points and one first-place selection.
Millsaps was tabbed eighth with 14 points. Early this summer the Majors hired Millsaps women's soccer head coach Luke Schwartz who will look to turn the program around following his success at the NCAA Division II level as an assistant.
The Majors will also be returning 2024 All-SAA Honorable Mention senior goalkeeper Emily Lozano and junior midfielder Alex Bremond.
The men's soccer team will kick the regular season off on Friday, Aug. 29 against MUW, while the women's squad will take on McMurry University in their season opener on Saturday, Aug. 30. Both matches will take place at Harper Davis Field.
