Celebrating the Top Millsaps Athletics Moments from Each Program in 2024-25

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps College Department of Athletics saw several programs excel on the field and on the court in the fall, winter and spring. Here is a look back at the top athletic moments and list of accomplishments for all 18 programs.

Football – Reclaiming the Sword and Returning to Form 
  • Sept. 5: The Majors bested Belhaven, 23-21 in the Riverside Rumble. Millsaps concluded its 2024 campaign with the most overall and conference wins since 2019.

Women's Soccer vs. Tougaloo

Women's Soccer – Majors Cage the Bulldogs
  • Sept. 15 | Women's soccer blanks Tougaloo College, 12-0 in cross-town matchup. The Majors also recorded a 51-0 shot advantage to down the Bulldogs as sophomore Alex Bremond tallied a hat trick and four assists.

  • Sept. 18: Shutting the Door | Sophomore Alex Bremond's fifth goal of the season and senior Emily Lozano pair of shutout saves help the Majors down Centenary, 1-0 in midweek triumph. 
  • Sept. 10: Buzzing and Stinging the Yellowjackets | Suzanna Busbee tallies two goals in a 2-2 draw against LeTourneau, while Emily Lozano collects six saves to secure the tie.

Men's Soccer – Majors Top Vikings, 1-0 for SAA Triumph
  • Oct. 18: Freshman Ellis Dykes opened the second half with a goal and junior Michael Hamauei provided four saves to help Millsaps blank Berry, 1-0. It was the Majors' first conference win since March 20, 2021.
Other Men's Soccer Major Notables
  • Sept. 10 & 19: Rolling Past Hawks and Bulldogs | The Majors defeated both Huntingdon College and Tougaloo College, 2-0 in a pair of non-conference shutouts. Hamauei combined for 18 saves in the two clean sheets.
  • Sept. 13 & 14: Majors Battle Strong in Arkansas | Men's soccer draws with the University of the Ozarks (1-1) and Ecclesia College (3-3) in thrilling matchups. Sophomore Ethan Pratt scored against the Eagles, while freshman Drew Mckeithen recorded two goals against the Royals.

Women's Cross Country – Seniors Close Out SAA Championship Careers in Style
  • Nov. 2: Seniors Sarah Strickland and Fran Edwards both finish in the top 30 at the 2024 SAA Cross Country Championships in 24th and 29th place, respectively.

  • Sept. 6: Women's Cross Country Opens Season Strong at MC 5K Opener | Seniors Sarah Strickland (25th, 21:23.7) and Fran Edwards (29th, 21:43.0) both finished as top 30 contenders.
     
  • Nov. 16: Competing against the Best | The Majors competed along the familiar Choctaw Trails in Clinton at the 2024 NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships.

Men's Cross Country – Majors Compete Strong in 2024 SAA Cross Country Championships
  • Nov. 2: Senior Patch Heard led the Majors (59th, 30:17.4) in the 8K course at the 2024 SAA Cross Country Championships. Freshman Phillip Antis (61st, 31:27.7) and Aidan Brice (69th, 35:46.4) both finished strong in their collegiate championship debuts.

  • Nov. 16: Giving their All at NCAA South Regionals | Senior Patch Heard and freshman Aidan Brice showed all-out effort on the eight-kilometer course close home at the Choctaw Trails.
  • SAA Academic Honor Roll | All five members of the men's cross country team were included on the list.

Volleyball – Majors Leap to Historic Season on the Court
  • Nov. 8: Volleyball sweeps Belhaven to conclude the 2024 regular season with 22 wins. Millsaps secured its highest win total since 2012 and the team's eight conference victories were the most since 2014.

  • Sept. 29: Elder Lifts Majors Past Ogelthorpe in Georgia | Senior Zoe Elder Records 2,000th career assist in 3-1 victory over Stormy Petrels.
     
  • Oct. 8: Millsaps Volleyball Head Coach Jaime Fisher Secures 250th Career Win | The Majors improved to 15-3 and Coach Fisher secured the win milestone after a sweep of Tougaloo College.
     
  • Oct. 20: Capezzera Powers Majors to Sweep of Berry | Senior Anna Capezzera tallies 1000th career point in three-set triumph over Vikings.
     
  • Sweep Success | The Majors made sweeping opponents a routine throughout the season by recording 13 total 3-0 decisions.

Men's Swimming and Diving – Ben Goes Big at SAA Swimming and Diving Championships
  • Feb. 13: Junior Ben Anderson placed runner-up in the men's 50-yard freestyle A-Final at the 2025 SAA Swimming and Diving Championships, with a season-best time of a 21.05 seconds, earning a spot on the All-SAA Second Team.

  • Oct. 26: Carrying the Load | Junior Ben Anderson claimed first place in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.35 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.42 seconds) in a home dual meet against Centenary.

Women's Swimming and Diving – Making History on the SAA Championship Stage
  • Feb. 14 | Senior Kat Burns becomes first Millsaps women's swimming and diver in program history to receive All-SAA honors. She earned All-SAA Honorable Mention plaudits after placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.25) at the 2025 SAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

  • Jan. 17: Swim Past Centenary on the Road | The Majors tally seven event wins and triumph at Centenary, 102-78 in regular-season finale.
     
  • Feb. 15: Distance Well Traveled | Senior Catherine Passarelli closed her collegiate career by setting records in the 1650-yard freestyle (19:34.89) and 1000-yard freestyle in the same race at the 2025 SAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Women's Basketball – Stands atop SAA Regular-Season Standings Once Again
  • Feb. 14: Millsaps goes back-to-back and earns their seventh SAA Regular Season Championship, dating back to 2012-13. The Majors bested Oglethorpe, 75-59 to earn the right to host the 2025 SAA Women's Basketball Championship and finished with a 10-2 conference record.

  • Nov 30: Justin LeBlanc Becomes Winningest Coach in Program History | LeBlanc records his 130th Millsaps win in 84-68 triumph over Huntingdon. The Majors finished the season with a 22-5 record, while LeBlanc finished his Millsaps coaching career before being named Director of Athletics with a record of 146-83 (.638 winning percentage).
     
  • Dec. 13: Record-Setting Free Throw Performance | Sophomore Garin Freeman led the way by setting the Southern Athletic Association record for free-throw makes in a game and paced NCAA Division III in 2024-25 with 20 contributions coming from the foul line in 64-52 win at Centenary. She shot 20-of-22 and surpassed the record of 18 set by Millsaps alum Taelor Manning on Feb. 28, 2021. Freeman's 20 makes are the most by a Major since at least 2009-10 when the NCAA began tracking individual game free-throw statistics. Her 22 total tries are also the most since Dia Fortenberry provided 24 attempts on Nov. 25, 2018.
     
  • Feb. 8: Making History | Senior Haley Franklin became the program's all-time leading scorer in just her third season. She passed Velvet Johnson's 1,446 career points (2011-15) and finished with 1,516 points.

Men's Basketball – Louisiana Native Named SAA Defensive Athlete of the Year
  • Feb. 25: Senior Nicholas Ughovwa of Sulphur, La., earns SAA Defensive Athlete of the Year status, becoming the first Millsaps men's basketball player since 2019-20. He led the conference with 48 blocks.

  • Nov. 10: Bouncing Kangaroos, 74-57 in Season Opener | Sophomore Cameron Lumar led the Majors with 16 points and senior Drew Roth recorded nine rebounds off the glass in triumph.
     
  • Feb. 8: Rolling Past Rhodes, 82-64 on Senior Day | Junior Dakota Gasca led all scoring with 23 points while adding four steals, four rebounds, and two assists in Senior Day victory.
     
  • Feb. 9: Majors Blank Hendrix, 78-59 in Regular-Season Home Finale | Junior Caleb Kent dropped 16 points, five assists and nine rebounds the following day.

Men's Tennis – Majors Dominate Pair of Opponents
  • March 10 & 23: Men's tennis topped the University of Northwestern-St. Paul, 6-1 during Spring Break Tennis before blanking No. 24 NJCAAA ranked Southwest Mississippi Community College, 7-0 on Senior Day.

  • March 10-11: Shining at Spring Break Tennis | Senior Carson Chassaignac finished his last three matches during spring break tennis with a record of 2-1 in Florida | Chassaignac bests his opponents from the University of Northwestern–St. Paul (6-1, 6-1) and Piedmont University (7-5, 6-2) on Court Two.
     
  • March 10-12: Blazing Hot Duo | Seniors Anderson Dulaney and Sam Tuli posted a 3-1 record in their last four matches at the Spring Break Tennis tournament in Orlando. The duo defeated their opponents from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (7-6), Piedmont University (6-4), and Connecticut College (7-5) on Court One.
     
  • March 22: Snuffing Out the Blazers | The Majors earned a thrilling 4-3 decision over Belhaven after claiming the doubles point and winning on Court 1, 2 and 3 of singles. Senior Anderson Dulaney provided the match-clinching point on Court 2 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph.

Men's Golf – All-Tournament Talent Takes Route 66
  • March 12-14: Danielson was named to the LTU Spring Break Invitational All-Tournament Team after tying for second and finishing 1-under for the tournament (66-77-72—215). Danielson's 66 was the lowest of all competitors and his 215 score for the tournament was the lowest of his collegiate career. It was also Danielson's fourth top-five finish. The senior's first round 66 was the best by a Millsaps men's golfer since Ryan Henry carded a 65 in the second round of the 2016 SAA Men's Golf Championship.

  • Sept. 8: Teeing Off the Season Strong | Senior Will Danielson finished third out of 79 collegiate golfers at the Greystone Fall Invitational in the opening competition. Danielson carded 3-under for two rounds (70-71—141).
     
  • March 31-April 1: Stinging the Competition | Freshman Charlie Berglund and senior Will Danielson both tied for 11th to help the Majors record their lowest 54-hole score of the season (308-298-296—902) at LeTourneau's Eagle's Bluff Intercollegiate. Millsaps finished third out of 11 teams in the competition.

Women's Tennis – Qualifying for the 2025 SAA Tennis Championships
  • April 12-13 | The Majors clinched a spot in the 2025 SAA Women's Tennis Championships on April 12 before taking care of Hendrix, 5-2 in the regular-season finale the following day.

  • March 9-11: Opening Spring Break Tennis Undefeated | The Majors downed Roger Williams (6-1) and swept both the University of Northwestern-St. Paul and Covenant College, 7-0 in the first three matches of Spring Break Tennis.
     
  • March 22 & 23: Sweeps Continue | Women's tennis swept Belhaven in a cross-town rivalry matchup, 7-0 before shutting out NJCAA foe Southwest Mississippi Community College, 4-0 at Coach Montgomery Courts.

Baseball – Claims 2025 SAA Regular Season Title 
  • April 19: The Majors earned the right to host their first conference championship since 2013 after sweeping the Vikings in three games in Georgia. Millsaps finished the season with a 13-5 conference record and 29-15 overall mark.

  • Feb. 16: Walk-Off Grand Slam | Senior Bradley Pelle helped lift the Majors over Edgewood College, 6-5 with an emphatic walk-off grand slam.
     
  • March 16: Majors Outrank Colonels | Millsaps overcame a four-run deficit to dispath No. 14 Centre, 5-4. Freshman Charles Hunt provided a walk-off single in the abbreviated seventh-inning game.
     
  • May 8: SAA Major Magic | Baseball utilizes a four-run, eighth-inning to surpass Berry, 5-2 in SAA Baseball Championship opening matchup. The tournament was hosted by the Majors and condensed due to weather.
     
  • May 12: Baseball Punches Ticket to 2025 NCAA Baseball Championship | Millsaps advanced to its ninth NCAA Regional in program history and first since 2015 after securing an at-large bid.

Women's Track and Field | Breaking Major Records
  • Feb. 15, April 12 & 25: Senior Fran Edwards broke the Millsaps women's track and field records in the indoor (19:20.83) and outdoor 5,000 meters (18:40.97) as well as the outdoor 10,000 meters (39:52.85) during her stellar campaign.

  • Feb. 15 | I Could Run One Fastest Mile: Senior Sarah Strickland finished fifth at the Samford Bulldog Invitational with a time of 5:31.65 in the women's mile to establish her own program record.
     
  • Feb. 28: Showing Championship Grit | Senior Fran Edwards finished eighth in women's 5000 meters with a time of 19:32.22 to score the Majors' first-ever SAA Indoor Track and Field Championship point.
     
  • Updated Top Five School Rankings:
    • Senior Fran Edwards marks in the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meters as well as the outdoor 10,000 meters.
       
    • Senior Sarah Strickland ranks first in the women's indoor mile, second in the steeplechase and third in the indoor 800 meters.
       
    • Sophomore Fiona Selders became the third-fastest runner in school history in both the 200 and 400 meters.
       
    • Freshman Merritt Johnson holds third place in the women's 100-meter hurdles record book.
       
    • Freshman Claudia Dempsey ranks fourth in the Millsaps record book for the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
       
    • Sophomore Amari Jackson-Wright's 10.02-meter shot put ranks fourth.

Men's Track and Field – Freshmen Success
  • Feb. 28 & April 26 | Freshman Justin Smith finished fifth in the men's 400-meter final at the 2025 SAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship with a time of 50.97 seconds. Women's Golf – Senior Annie Piggott Takes Home First Place in SAA Women's Golf
  • April 25-27 | Piggott makes history as the first SAA Tournament Medalist in school history with a first-place finish at the 2025 SAA Women's Golf Championship. She carded a career-best four under 68 in the Final Round to score even par for the tournament (76-72-68—216).

  • Oct 14-15: Hole in One | Senior Annie Piggott secured second tournament victory of collegiate career at FHU Fall Invitational. She earned the win by clearing the field by a stroke on the challenging course. Piggott secured four birdies, all in Round Two and sank a clutch birdie shot on a par-4, 18th hole.
     
  • March 17-18: Starting Spring Off Successfully | Senior Annie Piggott triumphed at the Hal Sutton Invitational by carding a plus-3 (75-72—147) and won in a playoff on the first hole with a par.
     
  • March 31-April 1: Pigott Wins First Place at Eagle's Bluff Intercollegiate | Senior Annie Piggott claimed her third triumph of the season and back-to-back wins after carding two rounds at plus-5 (74-73—147) on the par-71 course.

Softball – Majors Post Most Wins Since 2017
  • March 17: The Majors swept Hendrix in Arkansas in the regular-season finale to earns the No. 2 Seed in the 2025 SAA Softball Championship. The Majors marched all the way to the Championship series after defeating Rhodes College twice in the tournament.

  • Feb. 17: Dominating All Parts of the Game | Sophomore Allana Vasquez made history by becoming the first player in SAA history to be selected the SAA Athlete and Pitcher of the Week in the same weekly announcement in softball.
     
  • March 21: Peterson's No-Hitter Highlights Doubleheader Sweep against Agnes Scott | Freshman Hailey Peterson threw the first Millsaps no-hitter since 2016 in six innings on only 67 pitches.
     
  • March 29: Letting it Rip | The Majors defeated Rhodes College in fashionable way with freshman Hailey Peterson's three-run homer and sophomore Ella Morgan Sears' three-run walk-off homer in the 10-0, run-rule contest. Millsaps tallied six victories with the run rule during the 2025 season.
